The Constable Joseph White, as he is sometime referred to in order to distinguish him from his nephew, the Deacon Joseph White, was born on February 20, 1666 to Capt. Nathaniel White and Elizabeth of Middleton, Connecticut. After his mother died in 1690, his father married the widow Martha Coit Mould, wife of Hugh Mould, in 1693 or 1694. It was about that same time, on April 3, 1693, that Joseph married his step-mothers daughter, Mary Mould.

Joseph and Mary had seven children:

1. Martha White, born Dec 6, 1693
2. Sarah White, born Feb 27, 1695
3. Mary White, born Oct 2, 1698
4. Joseph White (1700-1702)
5. Jerusha White, born July 27, 1703
6. Joseph White (1705-1706)
7. Ebenezer White, born May 22, 1707
