Elizabeth was the daughter of William Parvin & Elizabeth Wescott. She married Alfred Purcell on Dec 22, 1840 in Muscatine, Iowa. They were the parents of Malinda (1842, Wm Atkins, Vaughn), Louisa (1844, Pierson), Sarah (1845), Alfred (1846-1847), Charles (1849, Ida Conner), James (1851, Mary Piper), Lydia (1855), Rhoda (1836), Alfred Oliver (1860), & Elizabeth (1862).

Muscatine Journal - Friday, March 13, 1914 - In the death of Mrs Elizabeth D. Purcell this morning at 3 o'clock, it is believed that Muscatine has lost the oldest living resident. Mrs. Purcell had resided continuously in Muscatine since 1839, a period of 75 years.

About a year ago, Mrs Purcell's health began to fall and she had grown steadily weaker until last Sunday when she contracted a severe cold and death followed this morning. Senility, combined with the severe cold, is given as the cause of her death.

Elizabeth D Parvin was born in Ohio in Jan 21, 1921 and came to Muscatine with her family in 1839 at the age of 18 years. During the year following she was united in marriage to Alfred Purcell and to this union nine children were born. Mr. Purcell passed away in 1878.

Of the nine children six are now alive and these are: Mrs. William B. Beil, 123 Maple avenue, where Mrs Purcell died; Mrs. Malinda Vaughn, Unodilla, Neb.; Mrs. Laura Pierson, Los Angeles, Calif.; Charles Purcell, Custer City, Okla.; James Purcell, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Rhoda Sweeney, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Two sisters of the deceased, also survive. They being Mrs Allen and Mrs. Jane Palmer, of Marshalltown.

It is probable that the funeral will be held Monday morning, from the William B. Beil home, 123 Maple avenue, and will be private.

Muscatine Journal - Saturday, March 14, 1914 - The funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth D. Purcell, who passed away early yesterday morning, will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Beil, 138 Maple avenue, Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock. The Rev. E.R. McCorkle, pastor of the United Bretheran church will have charge of the services and interment will be in the Greenwood cemetery.
