John Jefferson Carey who lived 13 miles east of Winfield, died at the Newton
Memorial Hospital Wednesday at 8:30 pm following a short illness. Funeral
services will be held at the Morris Funeral home, Friday at 2 p.m. Interment
will be made in the Highland cemetery.
Mr. Carey was born on November 30, 1886, and was 44 years, 3 mos and 17 days
old. He has been a farmer nearly all of his life. He was a World War veteran,
having served as a private in the 44th company, 11th recruiting battalion of
the 162nd depot brigade.
He is survived by his widow, Laura Carey, 5 small children, 5 bros. William
and Gus of Enid, Okla, Ross of Waukomis, Ok and Charles and Sam of Keenan, Okla
and 2 sisters, Mrs. E. J. Boyer of Enid and Mrs. Lee Rogers of Bison, Okla.
