Mrs. Elizabeth Turk, 81, Native of Germany
Mrs Elizabeth M. Turn, 81 years old, a native of Germany and a resident of Oklahoma county for 46 years who was noted for her flower gardens, died Monday morning after an illness of several weeks at her home southwest of the city.
Born in Westphalia, Germany, April 19, 1860, Mrs. Turk came to the United States when she was 13 years old. She married Simon F. Turk, Jan. 6, 1879, at Rochester, Minn., and in 1881 moved to North Dakota. In 1895 they moved to Oklahoma and homesteaded the farm where she lived. Her husband, a farmer, died 43 years ago. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic church.
A portrait of Mrs. Turk was made on a quilt which was presented to the Oklahoma historical society by Mrs. J. R. Phelan. Mrs. Turk represents the Oklahoma queen of flowers on the quilt, which has about 500 pictures in needle art.
Survivors include three sons, Ed V. Turk, Conrad, Mont.; John U. Turk, southwest of the city; Anthony J. Turk, Norman [OK]; four daughters, Mrs. William Magerus, 1622 Birch Ave; Mrs. R. J. Magerus, southwest of the city;
Mrs. August Koelsch, southwest of the city; Miss Mary Turk, Norman; 52 grandchildren, and 44 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements will be announced by the Smith and Kernke funeral home.
