WALKER WINFIELD ALLEN

Walker Winfield Allen, more commonly known as "Colonel," was the youngest son of T. J. and Sarah Baker Allen. He was born in Chariton, Iowa on Sept. 27, 1869, and passed away Nov. 5, 1959, at the age of 90 years, one month and nine days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carrie, on Feb. 4, 1957, two daughters, Valeria, who passed away in infancy, and Lois, who died at the age of 12 in 1922; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Kneeland of Eugene, Ore., and a twin sister who died in infancy, and one brother, Will Allen of Lucas.

When he was two years old his mother died and he was cared for in the home of his grandfather and grandmother Baker. In 1875, his father was married to Elizabeth Skidmore, with whom he then made his home.

He received his education in the Lucas school, and lived his entire life in and about Lucas, except for about six months which were spent in Kansas during his boyhood days.

On July 11, 1894, he was married to Carrie E. Stearns of Russell, and to this union seven children were born: two daughters, Valeria and Lois, who preceded him in death, Edna, now Mrs. George M. Cherrie of Canon City, Colo., Roy of Lucas, Claude of Ft. Collins, Colo., Glen of Canon City, Colo., and Keith of Chariton. He had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Allen was interested in his community and served in its civic and community affairs. He was a member of the Lucas Presbyterian church and served in its various offices.

Funeral services were held Nov. 8, 1959, at 2 p.m., in the sanctuary of the Lucas United Presbyterian church. Student Pastor Walter W. Longer officiated with Miley's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
