John F. Denning, as it was spelled in his day because of Irish descent, was the 3nd. child of 10 to be born to Thomas Groves and Susan Busby Denning. He grew up and fell in love and married Ann Smythe, the daughter of Esq. Jimmy Smythe, ( the sister of Judge Matt Smythe, the county judge of Weakley Co. Tenn. for over 20 years)

They had 2 sons and a daughter--(known of)

Cullen Monroe Denning b. in 1867 and d. 1872--5 yrs. 8 mo. old

James Pinkney b. 1869 ( and his son was named James Pinkney Jr.)

Florence Denning b. 1871--- married William Johnson, had 2 children, and died at 21 yrs. of age.
