Husband of Margaret Dorothy (nee Ditzler) Mintzer, and father of Linda and John H. Mintzer Jr.

During World War II, John enlisted in the Army Air Force, and while stationed at Sioux Falls, SD, he met and married Margaret Ditzler on November 14, 1942 in the Sioux Falls Catholic Church, with the Rev. John F. Cavanaugh officiating. Later he was reassigned to Brazil as a radio operator, ending the war as a Staff Sergeant.

After the war, he worked for Sylvania for 25 years, in a variety of positions, all technical or electronic in nature. He held two patents and was published in trade magazines on radios and other technical subjects. He also wrote a column for the Sylvania employee news publication.

John enjoyed hunting and fishing, and operating a ham radio station in his spare hours. In his last years, he suffered from lung cancer.

John H. Mintzer, 67, of 1052 Hepburn Street, died Monday, December 20, 1982, at his home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Mintzer retired in November 1977 as a technical associate at the former GTE Sylvania Westminster Drive plant. He had been employed by the firm for more than 50 years.

Mr. Mintzer was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Gesang Verein Harmonia and the Milton Moose Lodge.

Born October 29, 1915, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of William N. and Lettie Moon Mintzer. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret M. Ditzler; a son John H. Jr. of this city, and four sisters, Mrs. Marie L. Keiser, Mrs Frances Carpenter, Mrs. Arlene Bell and Mrs. Anna Hecknauer, all of this city.

The funeral will be at 9:30 am, Thursday in the church, 326 Washington Boulevard. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville RD. Friends may call at Crouse's, 133 East Third Street, from 7 to 9 pm, Wednesday. A vigil will be at 8. The family will provide the flowers. (Obituary provided by John H. Mintzer, Jr.)
