Laura was born February 25, 1888 to Perry and Gracie Landis in Montezuma, Ohio.

After a couple of her siblings had passed away she moved to Michigan with her family. Perry Landis, her father, came to Woodland, Michigan in 1894. As a little child Laura followed with her mother by train to the new location.

Later the family moved to Custer, near Ludington and Lake Michigan. Then, it was probably about the time her family moved to Benzie County, that she met and married Rodman Higgins October 29, 1904 in Benzie County. They married near the water in Frankfort, Michigan.

Laura was only 16 when she married and had a couple children. At least one died at two months old. Then Laura passed away November 8, 1907 caused by a lung disease form of tuberclosis. That was three months after the birth of her second child.
