Mr. Eugene Curtis "Gene" Stowers, 77, of Panama City, Fla., died Monday, April 26, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Alkol, W.Va., and had resided in this area for 34 years, moving from North Tonawanda, N.Y. He served in the United States Army and worked at the Panama City paper mill for 20 years. He loved to go to the ballpark to watch his grandchildren play baseball and was a member of AMVETS Post 2298 in Callaway, Fla.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Windham and husband, Randy, of Panama City; two sons, Ronald Stowers of Tallahassee, Fla., and Michael Stowers and wife, Rene, of Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, C.J. Stowers, Cassey Stowers, Ashley Laing, Naomi Laing, all of Jacksonville, Fla., Jacob Windham and Ethan Windham of Panama City; two sisters, Carolyn Riggs of Connecticut and Marvine Martin of Virginia; and two brothers, Dempsey Stowers and Bobby Stowers of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Stowers; and parents, Hurl Stowers Sr. and Gladys Linville Stowers.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2010, in the Heritage Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jack Hankins officiating, with a private interment for the family at Parker Cemetery. Pallbearers are Tim Fell, Mark Chambers, Mike Renaldo, David Doll, Max Bartle and Greg Parker. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 29, 2010, at Heritage Funeral Home.
