Cleveland Herman (Cooney) Brown, 61, of Route 3, Box 267 A, Waynesboro, died last night at Waynesboro Community Hospital.
He was born Oct. 15, 1924, in Augusta County, a son of the late Jasper and Carrie Fisher Brown.
He was a member of the Wayside Baptist Church and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany as a member of the 82nd Airborne Infantry.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Martha Virginia Lowery Brown; two sons, Gary M. Brown and Cleveland H. Brown Jr., both of Staunton; a stepson, Kenneth W. Campbell of Stuarts Draft; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Carrie) Fitzgerald of Harrisonburg, Mrs. Roger (Kathy) Campbell and Mrs. Clyde (Sharon) Marshall, both of Staunton; a sister, Mrs. William H. (Violet) Moore of Dooms; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Dainty Brooks Brown, July 10, 1970, and by a brother, Dewey J. Brown.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wayside Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry H. Cline. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Church of the Brethren.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Fisher, William M. Shifflett, Gary Hite, Dickie Marshall, Donnie Brown, Jimmy Brown, William Moore and Jesse Marshall.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McDow Funeral Home and other times at the home on Va. 762. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Waynesboro First Aid Crew.
