Christian F. Detweiler was the son of David H. Detweiler and Sarah K. Hartzler Detweiler. He was born in Brady Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. On February 13, 1868, he married Salome C. Zook in Brady Township, Huntingdon County, PA. Christian was a preacher for the German Baptist Church. While a minister, he was asked to minister to church congregations in Mifflin Co, Pennsylvania, Knox Co., Tennessee, Highland Co.,Indiana and finally in Johnston, Cambria Co., PA. Christian and Salome were the parents of seven children: Ezra Horace, Emma Z., Anna Z., Mary E., David Z., Sarah Helena (Lena), Jesee Crosswhite Detweiler. After the death of his wife Salome, Christian married again to Esther B. Miller on September 18, 1884. Christian and Esther were the parents of three children: Frank Arthur, Homer Preston and Harry C. Detweiler.

Pre. Christian F. Detweiler, aged 44 years, 5 months and 3 days. Funeral services on Oct., 3rd, were conducted by preachers Myers, and Rearich. Text. 1 Pet. 7:3. Preacher Detweiler was an earnest and faithful laborer in the cause of Christ, in the Dunkard denomination, proving his faith by his works. He told his wife a short time before he died that it would soon be all over, that he was fully resigned to the will of the Lord. His place in the church was never vacant as long as health would permit him to be present. He was loved by all who knew him. He was born in Brady Twp., Huntingdon Co., Pa., and was buried in the Wertz family graveyard near Johnstown, PA.
