From the Grand Island Daily Independent newspaper - Monday, Oct 16, 1950 - Falls from Scaffold at Home of Grandson Near Central City. James William "Will" Lippincott, 74 of Gibbon, Nebraska died Saturday afternoon, the 14th as a result of a fall from scaffolding at the farm home of his grandson, Dick Lippincott, near Central City. He was helping erect a farm building at the time of the accident. Death came almost instantly as he landed on a cement surface. Funeral services for the farmer and feeder will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist church in Gibbon. The rev. R. S. Kauffroath, pastor of the District 22 United Bretheren church, and the Rev. H. W. Dickerson, local Baptist pastor, will officiate. Burial is to be in the family plot in Shelton cemetery.

The son of Civil War veteran James F. and Mary Lippincott, he was born May 31, 1878, at West Newton, Pa. The family settled on a farm south of Shelton in 1878. "Will" married Annie Mary Vohland Sept. 29, 1898. They had the following children: Harvey Richard L., James Lawrence L., Velma Loraine L., and Harold William L. The couple farmed near Shelton and then homesteaded in Brown county, living there until 1908 when they moved to Lyman, NE. Mrs. Lippincott died June 1, 1922, there. Mr. Lippincott continued to make Lyman his home until 1932 when he married Mrs. Phillipena Zimmerman, sister of the first Mrs. Lippincott. They had lived at Gibbon since that time.

Survivors include his second wife, his three sons, Harvey Richard L. of Gibbon, James Lawrence L. and Harold William L. of Lyman, and a daughter, Mrs. Velma L. Shaw (Kenneth) of Henry, Nebr. One daughter, Altha Louise, and his wife, Annie Mary had preceded him in death.
