The funeral of Mrs Martha Ann Stahl, 86, who died Friday at her farm home, northeast of Moro, where she had resided for 65 years, will be held Monday at 2 p.m., at Moro Presbyterian Church with the Rev J A Esch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Moro cemetery. The body has been moved from Streeper funeral home to the residence in Moro where friends may call.
Mrs Stahl, one of the pioneer residents of Moro vicinity, was a charter member of the Bethalto Eastern Star Lodge, and had long been a member of Moro Presbyterian Church where she had been active in the Aid Society.
Mrs Stahl was born June 24, 1853, in Pin Oak Township, near Edwardsville, a daughter of the late William and Tabithia Baird. She spent her girlhood in that area and on March 9, 1871, was married to Thomas Morehead. After their marriage, the couple moved to Moro Township. To that union five children were born, two of whom preceded Mrs Stahl in death. The surviving children of that marriage are Mrs Nancy Starkey, who with her husband, resided on the farm with Mrs Stahl; Mrs Margaret Yager of Wood River, and a son, Samuel Morehead of Wood River.
Mr Morehead died in 1880 and later she was remarried to Daniel Leroy Stahl. That marriage took place Dec 27, 1883 at Alton, and her second husband too, had preceded her in death, his death occurring in 1927.
To the second marriage, two children were born, one surviving, Mrs Sadie Mayes of Eldon, Mo. She also leaves three grandchildren and one great grandson and a brother, Samuel T Baird, of Edwardsville.
