Life Taken At Moro Home Sunday
James Moorehead, 55, Suicides On His Second Attempt Had Jumped In Well Apparently Changed Mind, Then Shot Himself with Rifle
James Moorehead, aged 55, fatally shot himself yesterday afternoon at his home near Moro, after first trying to drown himself in the well. After jumping down the well, Morehead changed his mind and climbing back out of the well he ran into the house, procured a 22-caliber rifle and shot himself fatally in the head.
He was found dead near the corner of the barn at the family home two miles north of Moro. Lying beside the body was the rifle from which the shot had been fired. The clothing of Morehead showed that he had been partially in the water of the well, before he had climbed out. Neighbors said that he was mentally deranged and attribute his action to that.
He had lived with his aged mother, Mrs Martha Stahl of Moro. Her husband, D L Stahl, an old soldier died about a year ago. In the course of settling up the estate, James Morehead had some violent disagreements with the other persons interested and he had taken his troubles far more seriously than any one had any thought he was doing. The discovery of his dead body was a great surprise to the members of the family as there was no suspicion that he was considering self destruction.
James Morehead had lived all of his life in Moro township. He never married. He leaves beside his aged mother, Mrs Martha Stahl, one brother, Daniel Morehead and two sisters, Mrs Hal Starkey and Mrs Margaret Yager.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the Moro Presbyterian Church.
