Josiah T. Unthank, 82, died at his home here at 2:30 Monday afternoon, following a long period of decline, although able to be up and about most of the time.

He was born in this township April 23, 1837, the youngest son of William B. and Rebecca (Hiatt) Unthank. He commenced working at the carpenter's trade at the age of 17 years, serving an apprenticeship of two years. In 1856 he went to Pella, Iowa, but remained only one year, when he returned here and worked at his trade until 1871. The then went to Richmond and worked for four years in one of the burial case factories. His next move was to Indianapolis, where he remained but a short time, when he was offered and accepted the position of foreman of the Union Burial Case Company at Knightstown, which position he held for two years, when he again returned to the town of his nativity.

In 1882 he was elected to the office of trustee of this township. He was married to Susan. B. Hunt, March 27, 1861, and she survives him. Three children born to them have passed away, but one grandchild is living, Miss Helen Daugherty, of Wabash county.

The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon with a short service at the home at 2 o'clock, and the regular service is in the Friends church an hour later. Burial will be in Circle Grove"
