He was the son of William Henry Arnold, Sr. and Mary "Polly" SHOCKLEY Arnold and the grandson of Thompson Arnold and Susannah HOLLAND Arnold. William Henry Arnold's grave is marked by a stone with W.H. Arnold carved on it and is located somewhat in the center of this cemetery. (My grandfather had paid Sadie Endicott $5 to carve this as a headstone for his father.)

He married Malissa Ann COBLER, daughter of Christopher Cobler and Keziah BUSH Cobler, in Shelby County, Indiana on June 23, 1869. She died on November 12, 1897 (three years after he had died from dysentery) and is buried in Fairland Cemetery, Fairland, Shelby County, Indiana.

They were the parents of seven children, Bridda, also called Dora, William Lewis, Charles David, Mary K., John T., Ruth L., and George Washington Arnold, all born in Indiana before he received a land grant from the government and, on October 6, 1893, bought land near Cureall, Howell County, Missouri, where they made their home. His property was known as Arnold Ponds and still bears that name to this day.

He was age 47 when he died from dysentery. He was survived by his wife, father, his many brothers and sisters, his children, his aunts, uncles, and many cousins along with a host of friends. He was very much loved and missed by all.

He served as a private in Co. I, 51st Indiana Infantry, enlisting on September 1, 1863, and was mustered out on December 13, 1865. He enlisted at the age of 16.
