Suddenly my attention was called by hearing the discharge of the gun and hearinf him hallo, and looking, I saw him put both hands to his abdomen and then fall backward to the ground. He died immediately." The spring of the gunlock was found to be a very weak one; and it is presumed that the weapon slipped off the log, and as it descended to the ground the hammer struck the lof, thereby discharging the gun. Much sympathy is expresed by the entire community for the breaved relatives of the deceased, who was highly esteemed and had many friends.
