Florence Cannalito went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 22, 2021. She was born in Willow Springs, TX on May 29, 1928 to Annie Mae Johnson and Aaron Burr Hoot. Florence was one of 13 children and remained close to her siblings throughout her lifetime.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Lind Terracina, Tuffly Lind, and Vicki Atkins; grandchildren, Lisa Terracina Spano and husband Kyle Spano, and Mark Atkins; and great grandchildren, Summer Sledge, Tanner Sledge, Ryder Sledge, and Tori Atkins. She is also survived by two sisters Robbie Meadors and Myrtle (Sis) Smith and husband Bud Smith, brother Robert Hoot and Niki, and sister-in-law Olive Hoot.
Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Cannalito, 9 siblings, and countless nieces and nephews.
Florence left the Piney Woods at the age of 18 and went to work at F.W. Woolworth on Main Street in Houston. She later worked for Van Horn Industrial Supplies where she met her first husband, Oscar Tuffly Lind, Sr. She was a stay at home mom until their youngest child went to school, and then she then got a job at Joske’s Department Store in the Galleria.
Many years later, she met and married Joe Cannalito, owner of Lakewood Cleaners. Together they operated the business until his death in 1997. Florence continued to run the cleaners six days a week until 2008 after Hurricane Ike destroyed the building.
Joe and Florence always looked for opportunities to help the needy and disadvantaged. Up until last year, she would drive 100 miles round trip on a regular basis to bring supplies and hamburgers to the care house for Jason and the boys. Florence loved to talk about the Lord and Bible prophesy.
A memorial service will be held at the Oakhurst Full Gospel Church, 441 FM 946 S, Oakhurst, TX 77359 on Saturday, January 30 at noon. Lunch will be in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
