Annie J. Backes, 97,

Linn, died Dec. 3, 2002, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born March 1, 1905, in Osage county, the daughter of John G. and Nellie Haslag Kremer.

She was married Sept. 9, 1924, in Frankenstein, to Ferdinand J. Backes, who died Oct. 29, 1989.

She attended St. Mary's School, Frankenstein. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Help Church, Frankenstein, St. Ann's Sodality and the Osage County Extension Club.

Survivors include: five daughters,
Jo Dudenhoeffer and Rita Bonnot, both of Jefferson City,
Florence Dudenhoeffer, Linn,
Bernadine Schulte, Marys Home, and
Nelda Keilholz, Danville, Fla.;

five sisters,
Pauline Thoenen,
Gertrude Broker and
Martha Backes, all of Frankenstein,
Betty Brandt, Linn, and
Josephine Roettgen, Jefferson City;

31 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and 21 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary A. Backes, one grandson and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Help Church, Frankenstein. The Rev. Daniel I.J. Lueckenotte will officiate.

Burial will be in Garden of Gethsemane Cemetery, Frankenstein.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 8 p.m., at Morton Funeral Home, Linn.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's School, Frankenstein, or the charity of the donor's choice.. This Cemetery is the old one that lies behind the Church and the playgrounds.
