James Milton Tucker was born May 30, 1843, in Wayne Co., Tennessee, the son and first child of Lewis Gordon and Hannah Roswell (Rhea) Tucker.

James Milton enlisted in the Confederate Army at the age of 16. He was an Orderly Sargeant in the 7th Texas Cavalry, Co. C.

James Milton Tucker married Augusta Maryann Allen on October 7, 1866. They had 6 children, all born in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas: Virginia Cilinda Tucker (Green), Lewis Gordon Tucker, Jr., Orlou Tucker (McDaniel), Ola Alice Tucker (Johnson), Nellie Mae Tucker (Brown), and Hubert Nathaniel Tucker.

James Milton Tucker served as sheriff and deputy sheriff for many years in Georgetown and Williamson County. Sheriff Tucker was fondly called "Milt" by his family and friends. He had a friendly, kind word for all. He was deputy at the time of the capture of Sam Bass. He took the handgun from Sam Bass, and kept it all his life. It remained in the Tucker family.

Milt moved his family to Robert Lee, Coke County, Texas, and settled down to ranch. He continued to ranch until his death at the age of 63. He died March 7, 1907, and is buried in the Robert Lee Cemetery, in Coke County, Texas.
