Joseph L. Purcell died Tuesday morning at 5:30 from complications after an illness of several months. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. W. Ackles, five miles southwest of town.
Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 3 o'clock, Rev. E. M. Evans of the Methodist Church conducted the services. Burial was made in the Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa. The following friends acted as pallbearers: Frank Rockwell, Jerry Ingalls, Andy Dukeshire, John Hadden, Wm. Erickson, and Frank Kirby.
Deceased had been a resident of Montgomery County, Iowa, 44 years, having come here in the fall of 1875. Mr. Purcell was born in Virginia, December 3, 1833. He was married October 11, 1860 at Logan County, Ohio to Miss Clara Beans and to this union were born ten children, all of whom survive him except Mrs. Minnie Horrace, who died in 1908 at Peoria, Illinois.
The surviving children are, Mrs. Ida Murrey of St. Louis, Missouri, Mrs. C. W. Ackles, Red Oak, Iowa, Mrs. Lulu Stafford, Los Angeles, California, Miss Blanche Purcell, Red Oak, Iowa, J. O. Purcell, Red Oak, Iowa, Mrs. Maude Skinner, Lincoln, Nebraska, Wm. P. Purcell, Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Addie Burhiser, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Claude Purcell of Everett, Washington.
Mr. Purcell made many friends through the country, all of whom extend sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
