There has been a lot of controversy on Lydia's last name. Many family trees show she is the daughter of Tidence Lane Jr but that does NOT appear to be correct. DNA suggests she is the daughter of John Lang and Margaret (Unknown last name).
I will list some of the circumstancial evidence supporting the fact she is a "Lang" and not a "Lane" below:

1. All documents and sources show Lydia was born about 1793/94 in Georgia. Her husband Migeman Traylor was also from Georgia (His name is spelled many ways: Mijaman, Mijamon, ect). They married in Jasper County on March 29, 1813. The marriage record states her last name is "Lang".
*In comparison: The birth year for Lydia Lane (daughter of Tidence Lane is written in the family bible as 6 Jan 1786 (this makes her about 7 to 8 years older - she was most likely born in Tennessee although it may have still been considered North Carolina at the time of her birth (Tidence and his wife, Mary Cude, were married in Washington County, North Carolina which is now part of Tennessee.
2. The family of Tidence Lane never lived in Georgia.
3. DNA from several ancestors all show this line leads to John Lang.
4. John Lang is listed on the 1820 census 2 lines above Migeman and Lydia Traylor (Beat 6, Randolph, Alabama, USA).
5. John Lang owned property in Henry County (shown under his wife, Margaret Lang's name in 1831 - John appears to have died in 1825), Migeman and his brother William are also listed on the same record - "Georgia, U.S., Property Tax Digests, 1793-1892 for Mijaman B Traylor" Henry 1831
6. It is reported that Lydia named a daughter "Bathsheba" after her sister. I have not seen any documents showing John Lang's children so I can not personally state this is accurate... However, Lydia also named children after her parents: Margaret and John. This speaks volumes because we all know that naming patterns are a huge clue in genealogy.
7. I can say with certainty that the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) does not have sufficient enough evidence to verify Lydia's last name as "Lane" on any of the approved DAR applications for William Traylor using his son Migeman's line. I literally went through every document on file. They are very strict in proving ancestral lines... if you can't prove the last name of a spouse it is left blank.

Note: There is a document floating about that comes from the "United Daughters of the Confederacy" stating Lydia's last name is Lane. That document has lead many of us astray for years. I plan to contact them to see what source they have, if any. It is possible it was taken from an old application before they required absolute proof? I have seen this happen with older applications.
***If anyone comes up with solid evidence of Lydia's maiden name please let me know***
