John Traylor enlisted in the CSA on 8 Sep 1861 in Eastville, Alabama, Company E, Private with the 13th Alabama Regiment Vols. He took ill and was in the Yorktown Hospital 10 Jan 1862. He was discharged 27 Mar 1862 and received a bounty of $50 of which he had never before collected.

John married Martha C Harris 26 of December, 1852, in Chambers, Alabama. Their daughter, Emily Elizabeth also called Zeck Traylor was born October 2, 1853 and Martha passed away in 1853. John then married Motty (Ametia Antoinette) Lemmond in 1856 (based on their 1900 census that said they had been married 44 years). Motty stated in that same census she had 13 children, but only eight were living that year.
