MYERS
Marie Foulks Myers, the daughter of Willis B. and Jennie Elizabeth Foulks, was born on Aug. 26, 1897, on the family farm north of Chariton. She died on Nov. 9, 1981 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 84 years and two months.
Marie attended and graduated from the old Stanley School on the Three Mile Lane. In 1914, at the age of 16, she was married to Jess L. Umbenhower. To this union four children were born: Kermit, Nedra, Quentin and Nada. Nedra died during the influenza epidemic of 1918.
In 1936, she was united in marriage to Cecil E. Myers. This September they celebrated an anniversary of 45 years happy years together.
Survivors are her husband, Cecil; her daughter, Nada Umbenhower and her son, Quentin Umbenhower.
Those who really knew Marie can never forget her. She had an undauntable spirit equaled only by her courage and wit. She was always matched to the hour, and part of the answer, never part of the problem. She lived a vital life and was a moving force upon other lives. She was the cement and sweetness of our lives and will be loved forever.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Gregory N. Davis, pastor of the First Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 1981, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
