Alice was the daughter of Robert S. Whyte and Clara Blackman.

Obit in The Anthon Herald, 11 July 1962, page 1: Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Fitchner, 92, of Sioux City who died Tuesday, July 3, 1962, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness were held at 2 p.m. in the Anthon Methodist Church with Rev. Merle Benson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Harry Christy Funeral Home of Morningside. Mrs. Fitchner was born May 20, 1870, near Davenport. She was married to William Fitchner on April 3, 1889, near Davenport. They farmed near Davenport and later moved to the Cushing-Correctionville vicinity in Ida county, then to the farm west of Anthon. Mr. Fitchner died in 1946 at Anthon. Mrs. Fitchner moved to Sioux City to maker her home with a daughter, Miss Clara Fitchner. She was a member of the Evangelical Church of rural Cushing. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Clara Fitchner of Sioux City, Mrs. Mabel Vaughn of Anthon, a son, Worth Fitchner of rural Anthon; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Mosier of Davenport; three brothers, Stewart Whyte of Davenport, Wardie Whyte of Sioux City and Irwin Whyte of Cushing.
