Melvin V. Norton, 88, passed away June 26 at Frisbee Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Melvin was born on September 27, 1920 in Addison, Maine, the son of Millard and Vesta (Colson) Norton. After graduating from Pembroke High School in Pembroke, Maine he served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He worked in the wood business in Pembroke until 1960, then moved to North Berwick, where he worked fulltime at Davidson Rubber in Dover, NH until retiring in 1985. Melvin worked part-time until the age of 80 for SAD 60 School District and enjoyed working around his home and was very proud of his property and gardens.
He was also a member of the American Legion Quint-Cheney Post #87 of North Berwick, ME.

In addition to his wife of 67 years, Elsie (Brown) Norton, he leaves his son Darrell and his wife, Marlene all of North Berwick; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was predeceased by his two sons, Douglas and Wendell North; a brother, Richard Norton and a grandson, Michael Norton.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 3PM in Hillside Cemetery in North Berwick, ME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to the North Berwick Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 324, North Berwick, ME 03906. Arrangements are in the care of the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, Maine.
