Reached Age of 62: A Former Resident of This City
John A. Mattes, brother of Mrs. Albert Wagenknecht and Mrs. Katherine Stoll of this city, passed away at his home Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock, after an illness of one year. He was 62 years of age. Mr. Mattes was born April 24, 1871, in Rockville, where he grew to manhood.
He was married to Miss Annie Lawrence of Kiel Jan. 10, 1900. They made their home in Kiel for five years, Mr. Mattes being employed as a carpenter. Since 1905 they lived at Collins, where Mr. Mattes owned and operated the Hotel Collins.
Survivors are his wife, six children-Roland of Collins, Mrs. Elmer (Evelyn) Deffner of Collins, Armie of Sheboygan, Mrs. Thomas (Meitta) Riemer of St. Nazianz, and Orvella and John at home. Besides his two sisters here there are three brothers, George of Rockville, Philip of Thorp and Arthur of Greenleaf.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the home at Collins, and at the Evangelical church there at 2 o'clock.
