Martha Bierman was the only daughter of Bertha (Knitt) and Christian Bierman. She had a brother Karl who was four years older, but he died in childhood. On January 31, 1899 Martha married Albert Friedrich Belling. Six months later they lost their first child, Wilmer, prematurely. They went on to have six more children: Elmer Carl, Wilbert Carl, twins Mabel Emilie and Hazel Emma, Loretta Bertha and Richard E. Martha died at age 35 of diabetes, leaving Albert with six children to raise.
