Daniel (L.D.) Lail, 88 of Rt. 5, Hickory, died at 5:45 a.m. today in an area hospital. He had been in declining health for several years and seriously ill for one week.
An Alexander County native, he was born March 9, 1883 to the late Timothy Lail and Caroline Sasser Lail. Mr. Lail, a retired furniture worker, was married to the former Sally Bolick, who survives.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Christian Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. Willard P. Preslar and the Rev. John Perry officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
The body will remain at Hickory Funeral Home where the family will recieve from 7:30 until nine o'clock Saturday night.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Ray F. Lail, Willard Lail, and Zeb Lail, all of Rt. 5, Hickory, and Robert E. Lail of Seattle, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Lois Bolick, Mrs. Basil (Lottie) Spencer, and Mrs. Vernon (Gomer) Poovey, all of Hickory; two brothers, Pinkney Lail and Julius Lail, both of Granite Falls; 18 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
