OBIT -
YELL COUNTY RECORD, March 27, 1975:
Mrs. Martha Ella Womack Pickens, 94, of Dumas, died Thursday, March 20. She was the widow of Sam Kimble Pickens.
Survivors include four sons, Dean Pickens of Dardenelle; three daughters, three brothers, Odell Womack of Dardenelle and Ethredge Womack of Yell County, two sister[s], 38 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Sunday at Anderson Chapel Baptist Church near Dumas. Interment was in Tyro Cemetery.
Note: New marriage and Census information has surprisingly changed the name of Mollie's mother in our family history. It was believed her mother was Mary Hudgins, but we now know Mary was Robert's third of four wives and Marsavan Lyon, his first wife, was Mollie's real mother.
Marsavan (Lyon) Womack died when daughter Mollie was about 4 yrs old. Mollie's father Robert, next married Marsavan's younger sister Martha. Martha also died young, less than four years after the marriage.
By the time Mollie's father married his third wife Mary, Mollie was about 7 yrs old. Robert and Mary stayed married for 24 yrs, until Mary's death in 1910. When Mary died, Mollie had been married to Sam Pickens for about 12 yrs. In every sense of the word, except biologically, Mary (Hudgins) Womack was her mother.
Mollie Ella is my daughters' paternal Gr-Grandmother. Thank you to Mollie's maternal granddaughter Margie for the pictures. As well, thanks to P V Hays for posting the Obit.
