1860 Census... enumeration July 24th...page 139...Post Office New Geneva... Jackson County, Virginia

*** Benj Rust...73.. farmer.. born Virginia...real estate $800. and personal $280.

*** Francis Rust...62...born Virginia

** Bettie Rust...age 2...born Virginia

** Cordie Rust...age blank...born Virginia

** Virginia Rust..age blank...born Virginia

** Benj Rust...age 20...born Virginia...

Research of records reveal:

~~~ A child named Bettie is not located for Benjamin and Frances Rust.
~~~ Bettie listed as 2 years indicates that Benj would have been 70 and Frances 60 when Bettie was born. Not likely her parents.

~~~ Age of Cordie blank... records reveal she was born 1823 making her about 36 in 1860. Was her husband away in the civil war and she and daughter staying with them at time? Or, was "Cordie" Rust never married as indicated in "Rust of Virginia". Last names are on 1860 census on each person....all Rust, which would substantiate information.
Further records on Corndelia and Bettie not located at this time. However, they aren't on 1870 census with Agnes Davis Rust Powers indicating they didn't migrate to Missouri.
~~~ Virginie was born about 1837...about 23 at time of census. She married in 1865, about 5 years after census to James H. McDonald

~~~ Benj age 20 at time of census. He married Susan Minerva Burnett in 1877.
Postulate:
1. Bettie Rust was a grand-daughter of Benjamin and Frances Rust.
2. Probable daughter of Cordie (Cordelia Irene Rust...1823-1864).
3. Their other children had married and/or moved out of the home before Benjamin's migration to Missouri with daughter, Agnes Davis Rust Powers...Records confirm. Refer to records and information below.
Frances Davis Rust died 1867 in Virginia. Benjamin would have been about 80 years of age at the time of her death.
