6 Killed in Auto, Truck Crashes as Result of Snow

3 Persons Lose Lives in Express Highway Collision - 3 Other Fatalities in Illinois.

(Picture on Page 3A.)

Six persons were killed yesterday in traffic collisions after a snow fall coated streets and highways in St. Louis and the surrounding area with slush and ice.

Three persons were killed in a collision near the west end of the Express Highway about 5 p.m. They were Mrs. Herbert T. Wotka, 40 years old, 6403A Clayton road, Clayton, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Marsh, 4406 Boswell avenue, Overland. Marsh was 44 years old, and his wife was 43. He was assistant service manager for North Side Refrigeration Service, 4805 Natural Bridge avenue.

Witnesses told police Mrs. Wotka was alone in her automobile, driving west, when the machine struck a patch of slush and skidded into the path of an east-bound automobile driven by Marsh. He was accompanied by his wife. With her husband Mrs. Wotka operated a bakery at 6403 Clayton road.

The Express Highway had been reopened about 3:30 p.m. after being closed most of the day because of the slippery surface. It was closed again after the accident.
