LEXINGTON---Elizabeth Nance Ward Godfrey, 79, of Jerusalem Road, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 after a serious illness of four months. Born in 1922 in Davidson County, she was retired from Silver Valley School after 40 years as cafeteria manager. She was preceded in death by her first husband in 1976. Surviving are her husband, Robert Godfrey of Lexington; one son, Vernon Ward of Lexington; two sisters, Jewell Embler of Thomasville and Mary Howard of Tuscon, Ariz.; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in New Jeruslaem United Church of Christ with the Rev. Raymond Craven officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to New Jersualem United Methodist Church of Christ Cemetery Fund in Lexington. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
