Susan Lessig (daughter of John Lessig and Margaret Meixsell) was married to Daniel Custard 7 Jan 1860 at the parsonage of Christ Church in Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co. by Rev. S. S. Kline. Their marriage was announced in the "Jeffersonian" newspaper. In 1867 she and her husband were living in Pocono Twp.

In 1870 Susan (Lessig) Custard was living in Upper Mount Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA with her husband, Daniel Custard, a dry goods merchant, and five children; Etna Custard age 10, Horace Custard age 8, Mary J. Custard age 6, Wilson Custard age 4 and Annie Custard age 1. Daniel owned real estate valued at $7500. (1870 census, Northampton Co., PA, Upper Mt. Bethel Twp., house #208)

By 1880 Daniel Custard had left Upper Mt. Bethel Twp. and opened up a prosperous place of business at Cherryville in Lehigh Twp., Northampton Co., PA. According to the 1880 census, Daniel Custard, age 41 a dry goods merchant, was living in Lehigh Twp. with his wife, Susan Custard age 41, and five of their children; son Horace Custard, age 17 a clerk in the store; daughter Mary Custard age 16; son Wilson Custard age 14; daughter Annie Custard age 11; and daughter Carrie Custard age 8. In 1908 Susanna (Lessig) Custard was living at 425 New Street in South Bethlehem.. In 1916 she was still living in South Bethlehem, PA.

Mrs. Susan Custard, widow of Daniel Custard, died at 2 o'clock this morning at her late home, 459 South New street, aged 84 years and 11 months. She is survived by three daughters, Miss Carrie Custard, at home, Mrs. A. F. Young, of Williamsport, Mrs. E. H. Kresge, of Bethlehem, one son, Wilson Custard, of New York, two brothers, one sister, eleven grand children and thirteen great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from her late residence and will be private. Interment in Nisky Hill Cemetery. The body may be viewed on Wednesday evening.
