WINNFIELD -- Services for Evan Willard Austin will be at 4 p.m. today in Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under direction of Southern.

Austin, 81, of Winnfield died at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in his residence.

He was a native of Dodson. He operated Austin Stake Co. for 20 years and was employed by Carey Salt Mine for 27 years. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rhuey S. Austin of Winnfield; five sons, Gene Austin of Quitman, Harley Austin and Charles Austin, both of Tannehill, and John Austin and Darrell Peddy, both of Winnfield; four daughters, Lurline Skipper of Lumberton, Texas, Hope Weeks of Minden, Evie Sue Jones of Winnfield and Marion Falkner of Ruston; three brothers, W. J. Austin, Lonnie Aus[t]in and J. B. Austin, all of Winnfield; five sisters, Laura McCain and Eva Thompson, both of Winnfield, Josie Garr [sic Gaar] of Dodson, Vera Mae Deloney of Springhill and Velma Donaldson of Jonesboro; 28 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call in the funeral home from 8 a.m. until shortly before time of services today.
