William Jenks, a former resident of La Porte City, passed away at his home in Shell Rock early Monday morning. He had been almost helpless for several years as the result of a stroke of paralysis, which he suffered while living here. He was stricken on August 20, 1916, and remained unconscious for several days but rallied later and was able in a few months to get about the street by the aid of crutches.

Mr. Jenks was born at Vinton, Iowa, November 16, 1855, and moved to La Porte City but a short time before he was taken sick. He conducted a barbershop here but when his health failed he disposed of the business. He was a member of Narcissus Lodge, K. of P of this city and retained his membership when he moved away. The family moved from here to Shell Rock in March 1918, and have since resided there.
