ORRIS R. JIPSON, 73, of Lowell, husband of Margaret Hinman Jipson, died July 31, 1998, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born in Lowell, February 7, 1925, the son of Raymond K. and Mary D. (Sibley) Jipson, Orris graduated from Lee Academy in 1943. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific and in China. He was a member of Marine Corps Detachment 976, a member of LaBelle-Perkins VFW Post 1605, the Enfield Elders and the Enfield Baptist Church. Orris served the Town of Lowell as Moderator for over 30 years. He was an avid Civil War buff, enjoyed the out-of-doors, and was well known as a teller of yarns, In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by three sons, Roy Jipson and Gloria of Victoria, British Columbia, Michael Jipson and Shirley of Alma, Ga, Eric Jipson and Judy of Lowell; stepdaughters, Mary Condon and Charles of Brewer and Peggy Hinman of Bowdoinham; eight grandchildren, Roy, Charles, Eric, Mike, Heidi, Denise, Andy and Heather; two brothers, George and Roger, both of Lowell; two sisters, Pauline Richards of Bradley and Patricia Shorey of Lowell; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Jipson, and a sister, Joan Smart, of Old Town. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Enfield Baptist Church, with th Rev. Cleo Winningham officiating. Interment was in Lowell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to either Marine Corps League Detachment 976 or LaBelle Perkins VFW Post 1605.
