In 1916, they moved with their son, Joseph and their grandsons, Raymond and Jack to East Ayers Avenue in Escalon, San Joaquin County, California. This was property that their widowed daughter (who worked in San Francisco), Catherine Alice Kennedy Setaro had purchased for the family to live on. Wood was still so scarce that they had dismantled their home in Gold Hill and used the wood to build their new farm home in the district known at that time as Dent.
