Julius Richard Jensen, son of Anton Marinus and Lena (Frederickson) (Nelson) Jensen, was born near Hardy, Nebraska, April 18, 1916. He departed this life on January 27, 1983, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 9 days.

He was baptized at the home of his parents January 4, 1923, by Pastor J.C. Carlson and confirmed April 19, 1931, in Bethany Lutheran Church near Ruskin by Pastor Anders Hansen.

Julius grew up near Nora where he attended District 17 (Sunnyview) and Nora High School.

June 2, 1940, he was united in marriage to Hilda Johanna Runge at the Oak Community Church. Two children, a daughter and a son, were born to this union.

He farmed in the Hardy and Ruskin areas until 1946 when he became a partner in the Petersen and Jensen Oil Co. and then the family moved to Ruskin. In 1950, they moved to their farm northeast of Superior. Although he retired in 1979, Mr. and Mrs. Jensen remained in the vicinity.

At the time of his death, Julius was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Superior, a charter member of the Elks Loge No. 2197, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Danish Brotherhood in American Lodge No. 161 in which he had served as president and treasurer. He also served on the general committee, state level, for a number of years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, John and Harold C.; a sister, Marie; a granddaughter, Tricia Zeigler; and two half-brothers, Richard and Arthur Nelson.

Survivors are his wife, Hilda; daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Robert Zeigler; son and daughter-in-law, Wylie and Janice Jensen; six grandchildren, Juliene and Bryan Zeigler, Jeanine Kintigh, Rachelle, Jennifer and Amy Jensen; a great grandson, Jason Kintigh; three half-brothers, Oscar Nelson of Hastings, Murray Nelson of Polk and Everett Nelson of Davenport.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 31, from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior. Pastor Ted McIntyre, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Superior, officiated. Burial was in Spring Creek Cemetery, Ruskin.

Carlita Price, organist, accompanied Alfred and LaMira Mueller as they sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling". Casketbearers were Keith Schultz, Wayne Moore, Roger Nelson, Mervyn Dean Nelson, Kenneth Nelson and Gerald Nelson. Honorary casketbearers were Earl Kleen, Clarence Sykes, Richard Meyer, Jim Bruning, Wayne Schultz, Dale Adcock, Ralph Thayer, Ernest Nelson, Jens Hoyer and Roy Rempe.
