Daughter at Woodward, Okla.
Lived in Scott Co. 58 Years

Joe T. Scott, resident of Scott county for the past 58 years, died Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Melvin Crowl, Woodward, Okla., where he had been visiting and attending a rodeo. He had been in ill health for some time but his condition was not thought to have been serious.

Funeral services were held from the Scott City Christian church Monday, 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Marion O. Wheaton, pastor of the Baptist church, and burial was in the Friend cemetery.

Joel Tullis Scott, son of George Byron and Harriett Tullis Scott was born in Schuyler county, near Rushville, Ill., December 21, 1876. He died at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 27 days.

In 1883 he came to Johnson county, Kansas with his parents and in 1887 they took a homestead in Scott county where his father died in 1892. He was united in marriage to Mertie Jane Bush, June 28, 1905 and to this union six children were born: Mrs Mary Crowl of Woodward, Okla., Mrs. Harriett Drake and Mrs. Nellie Sharpe of Scott City, and one son, Leroy Dale Scott, boatswain first class of the U. S. Navy somewhere in the southwest Pacific. His wife and two children preceded him in death, Alice in infancy and Joel at the age of 4. He also leaves two brothers, James W. and Bert Scott, and two sisters, Miss Cassie Scott and Mrs. Maude Lawrence, all of Scott City, as well as 12 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Scott had lived on a farm in southwest Scott county for many years but gave up the farm five years ago on account of his health. He has been making his home in Scott City with his daughter, Mrs. Drake.
