Born in an isolated area of Union County Arminda (the correct spelling) was taken to Baltimore by her father when she was a teenager, where she was left with a French woman who was to give her an education in the finer things in life. It was here that she met David Benney and was married to him ca. 1868, apparently without the knowledge of her parents.
David and Arminda moved to Hartley Twp., Union County ca. 1877 to be near her parents.
Arminda became involved with neighbor Theodore Freed and ca. 1886 they both abandoned their families and went to Baltimore, taking with them only Arminda's youngest daughter Ida. In 1890 she filed for divorce. The acrimonious procedings continued for nineteen years until the divorce was granted.
Whether Arminda and Freed were ever married is uncertain but they claimed to be in both the 1900 and 1910 census. By 1910 they had moved to McDowell Co., West Virginia and later they moved to Huntington. After Freed's death Arminda was married to J. M. Blankenship but they never lived together and she lived with her daughter Ida until her death.
