TIDWELL, GORDON GIDEON
Gordon Gideon Tidwell, age 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior January 2, 2010. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel Edgar Tidwell and Eula Gideon Tidwell; his brothers, Samuel R. Tidwell and Paul Allen Tidwell; his sisters, Ruby Moore, Mary Sue Young, Pauline Kuykendall, and Erline Thomas. Gordon is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Dorris Hooker Tidwell, his brother, John E. Tidwell; his children, Gary Tidwell (Juanita), Donna Tidwell, Karen Dyess (Robert), Debbie Milton (David), Scott Tidwell (Melanie), and Vicki Lavett (Farley); his grandchildren, Chris Tidwell, Rachel Milton, Candace Tidwell, Caitlin Tidwell, Danielle Lavett, Stephen Lavett, and Nicholas Lavett. Gordon graduated from Jefferson County High School and was inducted into the Army Air Forces at Fort McClellan, AL in July, 1944. He served in the European Theater in Naples and Rome, Italy; Munich, Frankfurt, and Bremmerhaven, Germany; and with the 116th Air Communication Service Squadron at Tullen Air Force Base in Austria. Gordon earned several medals including the American Theater Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He also earned two diplomas for training in Radio Mechanics. Upon returning to the States, he was discharged in November, 1946. He and Dorris were married in April, 1947. Becoming a glazier at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, he worked in this trade for 42 years before retiring in 1988. Gordon was a member of the Fultondale Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10250. As a member of Full Gospel churches, he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon for many years. Currently, he is a member of Cornerstone Church of Mt. Olive. Visitation will be Monday, January 4, 2010, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 5, at the chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. Pallbearers are David Milton, Farley Lavett, Donnie Moore, Ronnie Moore, David Tidwell, and Mark Tidwell.
