He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Bobbie Tidwell.
He leaves behind 2 sons, David Tidwell (Beverly) and Mark Tidwell (Billie); 6 grandchildren; Kimberly Tidwell Wright (Andy), John David Tidwell (Allyson), Kevin Tidwell (Jennifer), Michael Tidwell (Brittney), Erin Tidwell and Chris Tidwell.
He also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a deacon at Gardendale First Baptist Church.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Visitation will be Monday, August 28, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at The New Gardendale Funeral Home with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel.
Entombment will be at Oakwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
