Carrol Eugene Cary, 74, of Springfield died Monday, March 6, 2000, at Danville VA Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Springfield, the son of James Leroy and Clara Fifield Cary. He married Mary Ann Negrete; she preceded him in death in 1975.

Mr. Cary, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was the former owner of C. Cary Trucking and formerly employed by L.E. Meyers public utilities and Elm Transit.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors: two sons, Robert E. Cary of Springfield, and Raymond D. (wife, Rhonda) Cary of San Diego; two daughters, Alice (husband, Thomas) Curran and Margaret Cary, both of Springfield; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; stepfather, Richard Unthank of Dixon; four brothers, Robert E. and Richard Cary and Thomas and Clarence Unthank, all of Springfield; and four sisters, Marcella (husband, Louis) Alinger of Springfield, Wilma (husband, James) Goss of Camp, Ark., Shirley (husband, Robert) Steller of Pleasant Plains and Joyce (husband, Gary) McCall of Dixon.

Private graveside services will be held.

Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
