- According to the documents found in the Randolph County Minutes Book for 1780-1805 and the personal tax records of Randolph County, Samuel was born in 1772. Although he lived on his own and paid taxes in the years prior to 1793, it was in 1793 that he was listed in the category of being 21 years of age or older. This finding does not align with the tradition of the family that he was born in 1753, but it is documented in both the Court Minutes and Tax records.
