LAKE CITY - Vivian Higgins, 87, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City with Pastor Carla Hillyer officiating and burial in the Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City.

Vivian is survived by her sons, Donald (Karen) Higgins of Fort Dodge, and Raymond (Phyllis) Higgins of Ruthven; daughter, Patricia (Vernon) Main of Lanesboro; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Bass of Troy, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Higgins; sisters, Mardell Lewis and Connie Lewis; and brothers, Charles Anderson and Delbert Anderson.

Vivian Charlotte Higgins was born January 9, 1922 at Elm Grove Township to Cecil and Pearl (Morman) Anderson. On March 5, 1938, she was married to Donald Higgins at Carroll. She was a member of the Woodlawn Christian Church in Lake City, Rebecca Lodge, Past Noble Grand, Senior Center President, Hospital Auxiliary, Birthday Club and various church groups. Vivian dedicated her life to taking care of the sick and the elderly. She won the Senior Volunteer of Iowa Award and the Outstanding Senior Citizen of 1987 for both Calhoun County and Area V of the Elderbridge Agency on aging.
