BENWAY - Mary L. Benway, one of the daughters of William James Daugherty and Emma Boston Daugherty was born in rural Warren County on Nov. 9, 1891 and passed away Mar, 6, 1970 in Melcher, Ia., having reached the age of 78 years, three months and 27 days.
She was reared and educated in Warren County and on Dec. 2, 1912was joined in marriage with Harry Lester Benway at Red Oak. Their home was blessed with 12 children.
She is survived by four sons, Bill and Harold, both of Chariton, Rex of Odebolt and Harvey of Melcher, two daughters, Mrs. Alice Elwood of Everets, Wash., and Mrs. Mamie Batman of Chariton. She is also survived by one brother; Stanley Daughtery of Lacona, and two sisters; Mrs. Gladys Ensley of St. Joseph, Mo. and Mrs. Maude Stoneking od Chariton. There are also 12 grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, a number of nieces anbd nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry on November 27, 1949. She was also preceded in death by three sons and three daughters and by six brothers and sisters.
She was a kind and loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She had accepted Christ as her savior and had been active as long as her health allowed.
Services were held Monday Mar. 9, at the Miley and Brueggemann Chapel with the Rev. John Hickman officiating. Interment was in Allerton Cemetery.
Mary and Harry Benway had another son: Marion (Bud) Harry Benway, b. 12-Dec-1911 in Red Oak, Iowa and d. 17-Oct-1969 in Utah.
