Ethel Jennie Miller
Ethel Jennie Daugherty, daughter of William and Edna Daugherty, was born Oct. 1, 1889, in Warren county, Iowa and passed from this life August 5, 1959, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and four days, at Chariton. On October 31, 1917, she was united in marriage to John A. Miller, who died May 14, 1949.
She is survived by four sisters and four brothers, Mary Benway, Des Moines; Gladys Endsley, St. Joseph, Mo.; Maude Stoneking, Chariton; Lottie Putz, Peoria Heights, Ill.; Lon of Milo, Frank of Ottumwa, Lara and Stanley of Lacona, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Ethel, as as she was known by all of her friends, was a former cook in various places in Chariton, working at Clark's Cafe for 19 1/2 years until her health failed her. She has been a most patient sufferer for the past twenty years and will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family. Their troubles were her troubles. Even though Ethel was unable to get out and attend church services as she would have liked, she received great comfort from God's word and sermons over the radio, and with her failing eyesight, made much effort to read her Bible daily.
Peaceful be thy, dear Ethel
It is sweet to breate thy name,
In your life we all loved you dearly,
In your death, we do the same.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 7 at the Miley Chapel at 2 p.m. The Rev. A.E. Beals was in charge. Burial was in Liberty Center cemetery.
