Son of the late Pinkney and Dora Hardin Downey; retired Spartanburg County guard; member of Graveley Memorial Methodist Church.
Also surviving; daughters, Mrs. Lillie Mae Campsen, Mrs. Helen Cannon and Mrs. Christine Mathis of Spartanburg; sons, Vernon Downey, Jr. of San Lorenza, CA, Herbert Downey of Atlanta; brother, Roland Downey of Spartanburg; half-brothers, the Rev. Hayden Wyatt of Aiken, Walter and the Rev. Grady Wyatt of Greenville; half-sister, Mrs. Melissa Smith of Inman; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
