Mavie was one of 12 children born to Lela Flowers Holmes and William Henry Holmes. She was raised in Shelby County. She married Joseph Warren Blankenship in 1918. They had 7 children. They lived mostly in Jasper County for the first 20 years of their marriage. They moved to Tyler County about 1932 and lived there the rest of her life. She was a hard working woman determined to keep the farm going after JW died in 1955.
